The 13th

TW: This film depicts violence.

This week, I’d like you to watch Ava DuVernay’s groundbreaking film, The 13th. You can watch the whole film on Netflix or on the link provided in Canvas.

As you watch the film, take notes as you go. Write down facts that surprised you. Images that shocked/offended you. Describe moments in the film that made you uncomfortable.

Once you finish the film, upload an image of your notes, or the Word.doc of the notes you took.

Next, write a brief reflection (~200 words) about why you think this film was so difficult to watch or why it made you uncomfortable. There are no wrong answers here.  Perhaps a moment in the film made you feel sad, guilty, angry, or afraid? Explore those feelings. If you felt uncomfortable but don’t know why or you just disliked the film, do your best to explain why. Try and find a specific moment that turned you off. Work through these feelings and ask yourself where they come from.
